Energy Resources Lab

We are continuing to learn about energy resources and how energy is transformed. Today we did an activity to introduce renewable and non-renewable resources.  Each team of 4 included 2 energy suppliers and 2 energy users.  One energy supplier received 10 "energy units" after each turn, while the other supplier did not receive any additional "energy units".  The energy users rolled a die to see how many units they used on each turn.
After the activity, we talked about which supplier was renewable and which was non-renewable.  They were able to decide which one was more reliable over time based on which one added units each turn.

What happens to energy when cars collide?

The students have been working really hard learning about kinetic and potential energy. At the beginning of the week, the students chose a variable, some aspect they wanted to change, in order to test what happens when 2 cars collide. Their options were to change the height at which the cars started at, the speed at which they traveled before colliding, one car moving or two cars moving, or the size of the cars (small, medium, or large combinations).

Each group had to design their own way of testing to see what happens when their cars collide based on their variables.  Afterwards, each group shared out their results! It was so exciting to hear them using their vocabulary words, kinetic energy, potential energy, transformed, transferred, speed, and gravity to describe their findings!

Enjoy the pictures of their collision lab! They sure had fun!

Chapel Buddies!

Third and Fourth graders have the privilege of being the "bigger" buddies this year to our 4 year old preschoolers! They have taken this responsibility very seriously and are LOVING this role! They have had the joy of getting to know their buddy through interaction and play time in the preschool room! Their smiles speak volumes!

Hand picked by God

What an amazing job the kids did making their own, special pumpkin for our bulletin board. I am so proud of how hard they worked on these. Each one is unique and special in their own way. Such a simple reminder that just like we created our pumpkins to be our own, God created us to be His. We hand pick our pumpkins at this time of year, and God hand picked each and every one of us!

Still working.....

I just wanted to let you all know that I am still working on getting the Blogger app to cooperate with me so that I can post pictures. I am attempting to attach one from Opening Chapel of Mr. Sharman, the scientist!

I am so proud of how hard everyone is working, and the progress we are making as a class! They are doing a great job during Math and Reading workstations! I am looking forward to another great week!

Check back soon and hopefully I will be able to post pictures!
